Vilarino to Chantada - 11.5 miles
As I knew I had a short day ahead I decided to stay in bed an extra hour ... OOHH, what luxury. To my utter surprise, a very thick fog descended overnight and visibility was about 20 feet; my head torch doubled as headlights while my reflective smiley face sticker on the back of my backpack worked as 'backlights'. For almost a full hour I could barely see anything and then, as if by magic, the fog lifted exactly when I reached the most scenic part of my journey. The view of the Ribeira Sacra (Holy River bank) vineyards was stunning and I was able to enjoy the view from both sides of the river with great detail. I could have happily settled in the little town of Belesar, surrounded by stunning vineyards and the gentle breeze. The heat and the ascent from river level did get to my head and after releasing a bit of pressure with a mini nosebleed I was ready to rock the journey. I even had a chance to get a taste of the local wine at the local Via Romana winery. The Camino is so new around here that the local guide asked if he could take a picture of me and their wines for their blog :) come on, that's so very cool. I stayed in a small town with a lot of cafes; that is important to mention as dinner is served only after 8 pm. I simply ordered 4 kinds of tapas and had a fantastic time people-watching. Breathtaking views and a lot of time to enjoy it. What a wonderful day!
